There is a small natural population that exists on the North West coast of Australia which has been expanded by agricultural inputs. The species Santalum spicatum is known as "Australian Sandalwood" and co-exists with the Santalum album in the same region of Australia. This is why you have "Indian Sandalwood" from Australia. India even imports the logs for oil production from Australia of the Santalum album when market prices support it.
